Possible allergies.
So at 3 weeks old after being consipated and then have direeah, screaming in pain and being so fussy the hospital put it all down to a milk allergy like Ariyah. The milk did not help so got give a different one. This was the one that helped ariyah with her allergies however with only a tiny bit of improvement we knew it was something more then just a milk allergy.
I was never convinced it was a allergy to milk due to the fact that Ariyah was allergic because of Ben's genetic line. Our donor had no allergies in his family and I had no milk allergies in nine therefore Layton should not have it. However all the doctors see if we have one child with the allergy so Layton must have it. Even when trying to explain the biological factors and that Ben carried ariyah and I carried Layton they just did not understand.
Aso ariyah had serve allergy, as a baby she was really unwell, vomited constantly, coking, wheezing, mottled, lost weight and was tube feed, bad reflux, colic ect.... Layton did not show symptoms like she did with a milk allergy eg vomiting being the main one. He was not a sicky baby at all. He has rashes like ezma but not mottled like she was.
When talking to the health visitor they advices it was colic and to stop on conic drops and gripe water which we had. We changed to a different brand of colic drops as infocal seemed to make him worse. We used dentinox which seems to sooth his night time screaming and relief his wind for about a week or soo. He then got bronchitis as was in hospital. He was not feeding much and sleeping all the time.
However ones he was better and back up on his milk feeds his tummy issues started again. We were feeding little and often restarted the colic drops and we did not see any improvement this time. He also started to scream worse when trying to pass wind or poo. His bowel movements were watery, mucusy and green and he really struggled going. We kept on at the doctor who just kept giving Layton laxatives. Then pessaries and even more laxatives. Again they made his go however he was still in pain. He scream til he choked or feel asleep out of exhuastion. He he wiggling and kicking, squeezing his stomach in and his legs up. Arching and going red. It was heartbreaking to watch as nothing helped at all.
We tried , massages, baths, hot compress, big legs, other legs movements, winding him more, colic drops, gripe water, little and often feeds, more milk, water, water with bit of brown sugar, cotton bud and bit of oil up his bum. Laxatives, pessaries, movicol!! Nothing worked at all.
Then one bath time we used cradel cap shampoo, instantly Layton head when patch, red and rashy, his whole body got rashy. Remembering also ones in the bath with ariyah he went abit rashy. At the time is faded quickly so we didn't think much of it just he had sensative skin to her wash stuff which would of been in the water from washing her and him in the same bath. However I happened to look at the ingredients of his formula milk powder and realised it had refined coconut oil in it.
I am sensative/allgeric to coconut and only knew as an adult more recently. I also went ichty after washing him in his bath and sometime remembering my hands got abit red and sore when washing ariyah. So as I expected ariyah wash stuff and the cradle cap shampoo all had coconut oil in. I then look at laytons normal wash he does not react to or creams we had used on him and none of them contained coconut. I looked at the ingredients of his other formula he had been on and again all had coconut oil. We then believed this is what could be upsetting Layton stomach.
With more research it became to all add up, although coconut allergies is rare it normally commonly passed on if the birth parent has an allergy. It also causes more gastrointestinal pain, discomfort which is the main symptoms Layton has. It also likely to cause exczma which again he got from a baby. We are sure that this is what it was not a milk allergy but due to coconut.
I rang the GP to talk to them about it, get advice on next steps as well as change his milk to one without coconut oil in. There was on one prescription which also did not contain milk however normal sma formula that is cow milk but no coconut which which could then wean back on ones we rule out what is was causing the issues.
